Boundary Busting

“I am going out in a bit.”  These are the words my neighbor said to me the morning of our big winter storm. I followed up by asking if he needed anything or needed to be anywhere specific.  He said he did not need anything and did not need to be anywhere, he just wanted to be able to go.   I am not judging because I know the feeling.  Although our Southern winter storms only shut us down for a day or so, being told we cannot do something sets off an automatic trigger in some of us and that boundary, rule, suggestion, or whatever must be challenged!

How frequently we see this in our daily challenge to follow God.  He clearly sets out expectations of us as disciples and followers, and we instantly perceive boundaries and limits.  Once our perceptions are triggered, we begin the battle of flesh versus spirit.  My way versus God’s way.

Again, no judgement!  We all struggle with these things.  The amazing thing is that God knew we would battle these tendencies, and He still chose us!  He told us with great love to take up our cross daily, knowing that every day we would have to make the decision to be His followers.  The good news is that the more we do it, the more natural it becomes.  Notice that I didn’t say easy, but we do get into a good rhythm as we walk with Him regularly.
