I recently had the opportunity to go bird hunting with some friends. In order to do that in a successful and comfortable way, I put on clothing and shoes that were appropriate for walking through brush and woods.

This week, I received an invitation to a wedding. When that date is upon me, I will wear a nice suit and tie and show up in a way that is presentable and right for a wedding.

When it’s hot, I wear short sleeves. When it’s cold, I wear long sleeves. I get up every day and dress appropriately for whatever lies before me.

As Christians, we are called to “put on Christ”. That is an intentional and thoughtful act. Every one of us starts our day in a world that can be harsh, hurtful, and full of lies and traps. We start our days knowing that at some point, we will have to face people. People who are lost, hurting, troubled, and struggling. If I need special clothes to walk through brush and woods, then I certainly need to be spiritually dressed to take on all that is heading my way each day.

To put on Christ is to begin each day in His Word and in prayer. It is to acknowledge His presence in my life and resubmit to His will. It is a way for me to be prepared for whatever He needs me to do that day. Just as I put on a coat to stay warm, I put on Christ in order to function.

Let me encourage each one of us to find a way to create habits that lead us to be dressed appropriately for our days. Make a habit of putting on Christ each and every day. It will bring abundance to the life you live!
