Jesus says that He is the well from which we are to drink. The preacher proclaims there is only one source. While the church believes and proclaims this, what does it have to do with paying my bills, finding the right job, dealing with disease and pain, or working out my difficult relationships?
These are great questions and ones that I believe people often walk away from church asking.
Sometimes we tend to think of Jesus as a fix. If I just give Him this problem, it will be fixed. But that is not what He is telling us or calling us to do. That is what we want Him to do. It gets us what we need or want without requiring any responsibility or relationship on our part. It is like running home to Mom or Dad and getting money and then leaving again.
The goal Christ has in mind when He tells us of His springs of living water, is that we would be so transformed and made like Him, that we would have knowledge and instinct to navigate any storm that comes our way. It prevents us from acting out of our sin nature which just digs our problem holes deeper and allows us to live and act in a redeemed way.
It is this redeemed way that saves us. It is this way that causes us to see differently and find His presence in all things. This is what He means by drinking from His well. It gives us the power of the Holy Spirit to change us and change the world around us.
The invitation is there daily. Drink!! Drink deeply! Take in all that He has for you and enjoy the perspective of Heaven.
