How many times have we taken the “Shortcut” and found it to be far more taxing than the
regular route? My dad loved shortcuts. The only problem was that they were never shorter. He
had a propensity for the scenic. As long as he was seeing fields and trees and farms he was in
high spirits and the trip seemed shorter to him. So, whenever he told us he knew a quicker way,
we rarely listened, but we often missed the best views.

God has so much that is good for us in this life. He wants us to experience His very best in
each and every circumstance. He wants to be with us and reveal His power to us.
Unfortunately, we tend to lean toward the impatient and oftentimes opt for the “shortcuts” in life.
Those shortcuts can be emotional, financial, spiritual, or any part of human experience. We
want results and we want them now, oftentimes at the cost of much deeper understanding and
meaning.

The walk of Discipleship is based on disciplined and steady growth. God reveals Himself as we
are ready to receive Him. He never rushes and He is almost never in the shortcuts. Shortcuts
can seem to be a good option, but they can also rob us of the fullness that God has intended for
us. When it comes to our walk with God, I would strongly suggest that we take our time and let
Him show us the views. We almost certainly will come out better and stronger for having taken
the long way.
