We live in a world where peace is not just a Middle East problem. Many of our school kids in our communities get one decent meal a day simply by being in school. Sex trafficking numbers are still going up. Can you imagine the terror that lives with those individuals and families? Inflation makes it almost impossible for families or individuals to live on their own paycheck. There is a growing sense of failure because many people cannot afford the basics needed to survive let alone thrive. The stress of these pressures leads to anxiety and tension in our families. There is a distinct absence of peace in our world.
The reality is that we walk every day in places where peace is absent. Schools, grocery stores, offices, and even our homes at times. So, what do we do? Should we join the doomsayers and claim that all is lost? Are we doomed? I think Jesus speaks to that very well. He says, if you are my children then be peacemakers.
We carry in us the wonderful power of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of Jesus. Jesus is the one who made peace for us through His blood. Jesus tells us that in order to be God’s children, we need to make peace where we can by offering ministry and hope.
When we as the people of God work less toward judgementalism, less toward self-focus, and more toward bringing His peace wherever we can, the world is a better place. Imagine if every Christian in every community made the commitment to be a peacemaker! We would literally change our world.
Pray with those who need prayer. Love those that need love. Serve those that need serving. Sit with those who are hurting. Hold those that are grieving. Share with those who have less. In short, be Jesus wherever you can. Then the world around you gets a glimpse of the Prince of Peace and it will change their reality.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”-John 14:27.
It has always worked, and it always will.
