Our Purpose is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ through His Kingdom and for His glory. Anything short of that is about us.
I know that is a bold and brash statement and it may rub some the wrong way. However, if we boil our faith down to the very basics of Scripture, then we must at least consider it. Much of what I hear from Christians today is about finding our call, seeking our answers, dealing with our pain, and so on. All of these are certainly acceptable pleas and encouraged by the Word of God. The subtle difference is that they either have to come second to God’s will and glory, or they have to lead us to the place of His will and glory.
In our consumer driven culture, it is easy to make everything about us. What we like, what we want, what we “need”, what is best for us. We apply these factors to everything from purchasing a car to entering or exiting relationships. While self-care is important, the greatest way to be our best self is to reflect Christ and make Him Lord of all our decisions.
The lie of Eden, back at the very beginning of it all, was that you don’t really need God. Eat the fruit and become self-reliant. Satan has been using that line for a long time, and unfortunately it still works.
Please know that without Christ we are nothing. Without Christ there is no life. With Him, all things are possible.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10
